Fell down concrete steps, numb underneath my knee? - i fell on my knee is numb

I slipped on the ice and fell Tuesday for at least 5 concrete steps, landing on the shin and knee. Of course I have scrapes and bruises, but my right knee is swollen (lower than me is ibuprofen, but still a little swollen) and my skin is numb, but when you press down, hurts like a blow. I went to the hospital because I hate them and try to avoid, as far as possible. I can go and not unpleasant, but hurt no direct pressure on the area hurts and WinCE. What you might think? The solidification of the area fascinates me. Anyone have this happen to them?
